Bloodborne Pathogen Course Outline
Course identification, length and regulatory drivers: This is a class
outline used by Du-All Safety to conduct employee training on Bloodborne Pathogens
in compliance with 8, CCR 3400 and local biohazard waste disposal requirements.
Class length: 1 hour
Attendance prerequisites: None
Target audience: Persons who may come into contact with blood or other
potentially infectious materials.
Training location space & equipment requirements: Classroom setting
with backdrop power point projector, and lap top. This equipment can be provided
by Du-All Safety.
Learning objectives: To prevent disease transmission and properly
control, handle, and dispose of blood and other potentially infectious materials.
Reference and instruction materials: necessary training materials,
including individual class handouts and certificates of completion at no additional
cost.
Evaluation instrument(s): Standard evaluation form and 10 question
test (optional)
Reference training frequency: Annually
Sequence of Instruction:
- The regulatory text of the BBP standard and an explanation of its contents.
- A general explanation of the epidemiology and symptoms of bloodborne diseases.
- An explanation of the modes of transmission of bloodborne pathogens.
- An explanation of the employer's exposure control plan (as provided).
- An explanation of the appropriate methods for recognizing tasks and other
activities that may involve exposure to blood and other potentially infectious
materials.
- An explanation of the use and limitations of methods that will prevent
or reduce exposure including appropriate engineering controls, work practices,
and personal protective equipment.
- An explanation of the basis for selection of personal protective equipment.
- Information on the types, proper use, location, removal, handling, decontamination
and disposal of personal protective equipment.
- Information on the Hepatitis B vaccine.
- Appropriate actions to take and persons to contact in an emergency involving
blood or other potentially infectious materials.
- An explanation of the post-exposure evaluation and follow-up.
- An explanation of the signs and labels and required color coding.
- Biohazard handling and waste disposal requirements.
- An opportunity for interactive questions and answers with the professional
conducting the training session.
