Ergonomic Workshop Course Outline

Course identification, length and regulatory drivers: The following is a course outline used to conduct a employee ergonomic awareness class in compliance with 8, CCR 5160.

Class length: 1 hour

Attendance prerequisites: None

Target audience: Employees exposed to repetitive motions during course of their work.

Training, location space & equipment requirements: Classroom with TV, VCR, PowerPoint Projector, laptop and backdrop. This equipment can be provided by Du-All Safety.

Learning objectives: To understand how to prevent discomfort and musculo skeletal disorders, properly arrange their workstation, breaks, and exercises.

Reference and instruction materials: Class syllabus and handouts

Evaluation instrument(s): Standard evaluation and 10 question test (optional)

Refresher frequency: Recommended annually.

Sequence of Instruction:

• Review of injury incidence statistics.
• How to evaluate the specific job tasks employees perform.
• General risk factors and ergonomic interventions.
• A brief overview of the human anatomy, hand and spine specifically.
• Repetitive motion and ergonomic understanding.
• Back injury indicators and prevention.
• Proper exercises, stretches, behaviors that aim to reduce injuries.
• Instruction on proper body postures and positioning when performing specific job tasks.
• Proper positioning of equipment; phones, chairs, VDT, keyboards, document holders, trash cans, books, etc.
