

Course identification, length and regulatory drivers: The following outline is used to conduct Hearing Conservation training in accordance with 8, CCR 5097. Supplementary materials include reference to the pertinent Federal OSHA regulation, 29 CFR 1910.
Class length: 2 hours
Attendance prerequisites: (1) Have a written hearing conservation program in place. (2) Conduct a noise assessment and produce an equipment-specific noise/Time-Weighted Average (TWA) chart. This chart will identify the noise levels, the permissible exposure levels and duration, and appropriate hearing protection for all noisy equipment.
Target audience: Employees who are exposed to loud noise of 85 dBA, or higher, or supervisors who direct employees who are exposed to loud noise of 85 dBA or higher.
Training location space & equipment requirements: Classroom setting with tables, chairs, overhead projector and whiteboard.
Learning objectives: At the conclusion of this class, the attendee
will be able to: (1) understand the reasons for using hearing protection.
(2) identify loud equipment, duration of time they can be exposed, and the
correct hearing protection to be used.
Reference and instruction materials: Hearing Conservation Program Written handouts, short video, equipment noise survey sheet(s), sample hearing protection, and TWA chart.
Evaluation instrument(s): Evaluation form and 10 question test (optional)
Refresher training frequency: Annually
Sequence of Instruction:
Medical Surveillance: Annual required hearing tests can be arranged before or after the class. Use of the hearing-testing truck to produce and properly document the testing results is in addition to the class cost.
