

Course identification and regulatory drivers: The following course outline is used to conduct a class on Work Area Traffic Control/ Lane Closure in accordance with CCR, Title 8, Subchapter 4, Article 11, Section 1598, 1599 in accordance with the new Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Class length: 6 hours
Attendance prerequisites: None.
Target audience: Employees who work around vehicular traffic or supervisors who direct employees who work in vehicular traffic.
Training location space & equipment requirements: Classroom, video, and hands-on lane closure exorcises. The first half of the day is spent with regulatory review, classroom demonstrations, device review, small group situation exorcises, and pre-closure planning. The afternoon portion includes hands-on proficiency training sessions, using the traffic control devices in various lane closure and speed situations.
Learning objectives: To plan, use traffic control devices, control vehicular traffic, close and reopen lanes safely.
Reference and instruction materials: Each participant will receive a Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 2003 edition, a variety of color reference materials, and a Coast Guard approved emergency whistle. Per person material cost is valued at $65.
Evaluation instrument(s): Standard evaluation form and 10-question test.
Refresher training frequency: Every 3 years
