Who Takes It: The construction industry (Per exception included in the Cal OSHA standard 5006.2). For employees who work with or around mobile cranes having boom length of less than 25 feet or a max capacity of less than 15,000 lbs., and hoisting (rigging) operations. In addition to, operators of derricks and side boom cranes, or equipment with a maximum manufacturer-rated hoisting/lifting capacity of 2,000 pounds or less are not required to comply with section 5006.2. Section 5006 training and qualification requirements will still be applicable to operators of derricks and side boom cranes. Exception: Mobile and tower cranes regulated by Section 5006.1.
Per the National Commission for Certification Crane Operator (NCCCO) operators will still need to acquire accreditation/ training via an accredited NCCCO 3rd party vendor if the crane (Mobile/Tower/Telehandler) exceeds over 2,000 lbs. and if boom lenght is over 25ft with or with crane device attachment (winch).
