Safety Data Sheets
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are required documents by OSHA. They present information about hazardous materials in a user-friendly and consistent 16-section format. This form replaced the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) in 2012.
SDS forms contain information about the physical, health, and environmental health hazards of each chemical. They are also an essential resource for protective measures and safety precautions for handling, storing, and transporting the chemical. Every SDS must provide the information at least once in English but can include other languages.
OSHA states that every employer is responsible for ensuring SDS documents are accessible to employees for all hazardous chemicals in their work environment. Access to these documents must be immediately available to employees in an emergency. These documents must also be regularly audited and updated for the most recent information.
